Provenance

Each slate fish is first drawn on paper then the original design transferred to the slate.  This is then hand crafted to create the original silhouette.  From this original a template is made so that successful designs may be reproduced.  These reproduction, though similar, are all different.  This is because of the unique nature of slate.  It chips and cracks in a random fashion, giving each an individual signature.

The first, hand crafted silhouette, is mounted onto a plywood sheet and stored as an archive piece.  It is only the subsequent items that sold.  Each item for sale has a unique, randomly generated, serial number inked on the rear.  They are also photographed and the details stored for later retrieval by existing or new owners.

Once the creation is washed and cleaned, it is mounted within a ‘St. Ives’ style frame.  On the rear will be a certificate of authenticity, the date designed, creation date, a description, the name of the piece and a photograph.

When purchasing an item, you are encouraged to email the artist with some basic information about yourself and your slate.  This will allow prove of ownership.  On a more light hearted note, if you wish to name your artwork, this can be added later.

New designs are constantly being created; while most existing designs can also be reproduced in either right or left hand pose.  This allows you easily add to your collection.
