SteamyTea is an artist and environmentalist who lives in
Cornwall, UK.
Having studied renewable energy, environmental science and
photography at university, attentions have now turned to creating more solid
art in the form of crafted slate. This
fascination with slate came about while studying coastal erosion for a
television documentary.
SteamyTea found that the best slate to craft was easily
available and gives a satisfyingly consistent finish. The texture and form is enhanced by the
natural chipping and cracking that is characteristic of this medium, making
every piece individual, even when an original design is reproduced.
No two creations will be identical.
Deciding to pursue this area more, SteamyTea visited local
galleries, shows and art clubs. Apart
from a few simple designs for the novelty market, there seemed to be very
little that could be considered art work.
This was the key to creating unique art for both the private
collector and the commercial market.
With each creation being unique, and backed up with a
certificate of authenticity, SteamyTea is now working on new and existing
designs.
Many people ask why the name SteamyTea is used as a
moniker. The reason is simple, but
rather dull. While trying unsuccessfully
to get a new email address for a very common name in 2002, SteamyTea looked
across his desk at his mug of tea.
Feeling a bit flippant, he typed steamytea and was rewarded with a
successful registration.
The name stuck.
